Clare flees LA, trying to outrun the heartbreak of a life that didn't live up to its potential. At a gas station, she drops french fries that lure a hungry cockroach into her car. When it reveals itself, she frantically pulls over to hunt it down. She's unsuccessful, which proves fortunate when the roach inadvertently scares off a prowling serial killer. Exhausted, she finally negotiates: food for peace. During their moonlit desert journey, she lets down her guard and finds unexpected solace in its steady presence. When her new companion departs at road's end, Clare lets herself feel the loss — discovering it's wiser to embrace her pain than run from it.
