2018 Calgary Underground Film Festival Award Winners

The winners have been announced! Each year we ask our esteemed jury and our expert audience to tell us which films they loved the most at the Calgary Underground Film Festival. Congratulations to the following films for taking home Audience & Jury Awards at CUFF 2018.

AUDIENCE AWARD WINNERS
Best Narrative Feature – TIGERS ARE NOT AFRAID
The Tigers team is so very honored to receive the Audience Award at CUFF! The selection was outstanding this year, making the award specially beautiful for us. We made this movie for audiences, and connecting with them across culture, language and distance is the best possible award. Thank you mil veces, Calgary! – Director Issa López

Best Documentary Feature – FREAKS AND GEEKS: A DOCUMENTARY
“Being from Alberta, it’s incredible to be able to bring our films home. Calgary Underground is a place that celebrates films I love to make but also love to watch. It’s great to see that the audience embraces it the same way” – Director Brent Hodge

Best Short Film – PAINTING WITH JOAN
"Winning an award at such a cool festival is an honor because the last award I won was most likely to fail. I've always trusted the judgement of Canadians. Also it makes the countless injuries and deaths in pre production worth it." – Director Jack Henry Robbins
